Our client’s vision is to create the ‘Jewel of Abu Dhabi’ – a contemporary reflection of Emirati culture, with a unique identity complementary to the striking surrounding structures of the Presidential Palace, Emirates Palace and the Etihad Towers.

Our architectural response celebrates the Dhow as a fundamental symbol of Emirati culture and heritage, which is evident in the plan form, facade treatment and interior design.

The rooftop restaurant provides stunning views of both the city of Abu Dhabi and the sea, connecting the guest to their moment in the city, under the stars. At podium level swimming pools and landscaped gardens lead to the beach, representing the Dhow’s interaction with the sea and water’s relationship with the land and the wind. Inside, a sensory voyage ensues through fluidly connected social spaces, centred on a sculptural spiral staircase evoking immersion in a whirlpool vortex.

Passive design strategies create strong eco-friendly credentials. Reduced heat gain, energy consumption, water-use and irrigation demand contribute to a bespoke environmental solution, that balances the requirements of the operator, with the needs and comfort of their guests, resulting in a 2 Pearl Estidama rating.
